Pastor John Weidman
John Weidman, an elder at Calvary Chapel Garland since 2002, was ordained as Discipleship Pastor in October 2021. Pastor John provides a mini-devotion from the pulpit on Sundays along with the weekly announcements.
John came to faith in Jesus Christ in 1993 at Harvest Christian Fellowship Reston. Upon moving to Texas John began attending Calvary Chapel Garland (then Calvary Chapel Worship Center) under founding Pastor Matthew Dodd, and then Pastor John Stewart. Beginning as a 3rd-5th grade teacher, the Lord has gradually and graciously called John to more responsibility in Church ministry. In addition to beginning as a teacher in 3rd – 5th grades, he has taught and led the Youth Group, and served as a substitute teacher for Pastor Duane on occasion. His elder duties currently include directing the Youth and Children’s Ministries at Calvary Chapel Garland and developing and leading various “School of the Bible” studies.
John Weidman is a 1982 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and served as a Naval Flight Officer from October 1983 until 1992; he is a 1986 graduate of Fighter Weapons School (Topgun) and a 1991 graduate of Naval Test Pilot School. John transitioned to Aerospace Engineering Duty Officer in 1993 which brought him to Defense Systems Management College where he met his wife Felicia Weidman. In 1998, John earned a Master of Science in Engineering Management and retired from the Navy . He has since worked at L3Harris in Greenville on various projects as a Project Engineer.
John is an avid fan of baseball and college football, reading theological books by old dead guys, and is an amateur photographer. His favorite Bible book is the Gospel of John, and his life verse is Galatians 6:14.
John is married to Felicia Weidman and has four adult, married children Molly Muller [husband Johnny and son JohnJohn]; Jack Weidman (wife Alaina); Michael Weidman (wife Bronwyn, daughter Olivette and son Kairos); and Katie Hering (husband Luke).
